We invite San Antonio area 5th-grade students to participate in the American Immigration Council’s annual Creative Writing Contest for Fifth Graders. If you have questions or would like to invite an immigration attorney to speak to your fifth-grade class, please contact us at info@dmcausa.com.
– The teacher who submits the most entries will be awarded a $100 cash prize and a replica of The Statue of Liberty for their school.
– 1st place winner will be invited to share their entry before an audience of newly inducted citizens during a Naturalization Ceremony in San Antonio, TX, and move on to the state contest.
– Second place winner wins $75
– Third place winner wins $50
TOPIC (choose one): “Why I am Glad America is a Nation of Immigrants.”
or “What Does It Mean to Be a Welcoming Nation?”
LENGTH: 500 words or less
FORMAT: Any written entry (essay, poem, story, interview, etc.)
JUDGING CRITERIA: Content/theme well explained, presentation (ideas well developed), creativity, and moving message.
DOCUMENTS: Entry must include (1) a Cover Page with the student’s name, grade, age, school, address, and telephone number and (2) an Authorization Release form signed by each contestant and his or her parent or guardian. Winning contestants will be asked for proof of enrollment in the 5th grade, such as a transcript, report card, or letter from the school principal.
