SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (July 11, 2026) — We are pleased to announce that Hebert Ibarra Castro has been released from immigration detention and is now reunited with his family. Hebert’s family, friends and fellow musicians plan to attend a celebration of his freedom this evening at Augies’s BBQ.
Hebert is an incredibly talented Mariachi and an important member of our community. He went to school in San Antonio, earning a degree from Fox Tech. He is married to a U.S. citizen and had filed to obtain his lawful status the day before his immigration arrest. While in immigration detention he performed the national anthem on America’s 250th birthday.
“Hebert should not have been placed in detention,” said Lance Curtright. “He has no criminal history, is married to a U.S. citizen, and had applied for his green card. I look forward to representing him through the lawful immigration process and, down the road, seeing him become a citizen of the United States.”
Hebert would like to thank all those who came to his aid: Congressman Joaquin Castro, his family and friends, fellow musicians, his attorneys and, most of all, his wife Marisol Pantoja.

Hebert es un mariachi con un talento extraordinario y un importante integrante de nuestra comunidad. Estudió en San Antonio, donde obtuvo su título en Fox Tech. Está casado con una ciudadana estadounidense y presentó su solicitud para obtener la residencia permanente un día antes de ser detenido por las autoridades migratorias. Durante su detención, interpretó el Himno Nacional de los Estados Unidos con motivo del 250º aniversario del país.
“Herbert nunca debió haber sido puesto en detención”, declaró Lance Curtright. “No tiene antecedentes penales, está casado con una ciudadana estadounidense y ya había presentado su solicitud para obtener la residencia permanente.
